Overview

Explore Istanbul and Cappadocia on this carefully crafted Turkey itinerary. Begin your journey in Istanbul, Türkiye’s largest metropolis and the nation’s cultural, historical, and commercial hub, set in the Marmara region. The city lies on both the European and Asian shores of the Bosphorus Strait, uniquely linking two continents and diverse civilizations. Formerly known as Byzantium and later Constantinople, Istanbul once served as the capital of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires, leaving behind a wealth of architectural wonders and heritage sites. Continue onward to the surreal landscapes of Cappadocia, where striking rock formations, fairy chimneys, and UNESCO-listed cave churches create an unforgettable travel experience before you fly back to Istanbul.

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Istanbul, make your way into Türkiye’s largest and most influential city in the Marmara region. Istanbul functions as the country’s main cultural, historical, and economic center. Spanning the Bosphorus Strait, it is uniquely positioned on both the European and Asian continents, serving as a link between two worlds. Known in earlier eras as Byzantium and later Constantinople, the city once held the status of capital for the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, and the Ottoman Empire, resulting in an exceptional legacy of monuments, architecture, and culture that you will encounter throughout your stay.

Begin your morning with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. Between 08:30 – 09:00 AM, you will be collected from your hotel for a full-day, guided sightseeing tour of Istanbul. Your exploration starts with viewing the exterior of the iconic Hagia Sophia, an outstanding example of Byzantine artistry and engineering. You then proceed to the ancient Hippodrome of Constantinople, historically used for chariot racing and major public events during the Byzantine period. Continue on to the renowned Blue Mosque, admired for its exquisite blue Iznik tiles and remarkable Ottoman design. The tour then leads you to Topkapı Palace, the former seat of the Ottoman Sultans and a powerful emblem of the Ottoman Empire. Afterwards, spend time wandering through the Grand Bazaar, the largest covered marketplace in Turkey, housing over 4,000 shops selling carpets, jewelry, souvenirs, and traditional handicrafts. At the end of the excursion, you will be taken back to your hotel for an overnight stay in Istanbul. Note: (*** Topkapi Palace is closed on Tuesdays, replaced by Underground Cistern or Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum & Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays, replaced with Spice Bazaar).

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and complete your check-out formalities. A local representative will escort you to either Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW) for your domestic flight to Cappadocia; your ticket is included and allows 15 Kgs of baggage. On landing at Kayseri Airport (ASR) or Nevsehir Airport (NAV), you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax or explore at your own pace. Overnight stay in Cappadocia.

If you wish, you may opt for an early morning Hot Air Balloon Ride (optional) over the dramatic valleys of Cappadocia, granting sweeping views of its distinctive terrain and fairy chimney formations. Afterwards, enjoy a generous breakfast at the hotel. Post breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel to start your sightseeing tour. The first visit is to Devrent Valley (Imagination Valley), known for its unusually shaped rock formations that resemble animals and various imaginative figures. You then continue to Pasabag Valley, or Monk’s Valley, where striking double and triple-headed fairy chimneys dominate the landscape. Proceed to the town of Avanos for lunch; this atmospheric settlement is famed for its age-old pottery traditions and stands along the Kızılırmak River (Red River), the longest river in Turkey. After lunch, head to the Göreme Open Air Museum, the focal point of Cappadocia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will see ancient rock-hewn churches filled with vivid frescoes from the 10th century, illustrating scenes from the life of Jesus Christ and the early Christian monastic community. Conclude the day at Uçhisar Castle, Cappadocia’s highest natural rock outcrop, offering expansive panoramic views over the region. Following the tour, you will be driven back to your hotel. Overnight stay in Cappadocia.

Enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel, taking a moment to relax before departure. After completing check-out, you will be transferred comfortably to the airport for your onward journey, bringing your Turkey tour to a close. Your flight tickets from Cappadocia to Istanbul are included. The services end here, with wishes for a pleasant onward trip and the hope of hosting you again in the future.
