Best of Athens with Santorini — 4 Nights Greece
Athens + Santorini
Overview
Athens is the capital of Greece and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe, with recorded history of about 3,400 years and habitation since the 11th millennium B.C. On arrival, a local representative arranges your transfer to the hotel for check-in and time at leisure. In the evening, you are free to explore the city independently, including shopping areas and nightlife. During your stay in Athens, you join a city tour that covers major landmarks. You visit the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896 (short stop), then pass the Prime Minister’s residence (former Royal Palace) guarded by the Evzones, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Parliament and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, and Constitution Square (Syntagma). At the Acropolis, you see key monuments from the Classical period: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and the Parthenon. The tour continues to the Acropolis Museum to view artifacts from the site. You are then transferred to Athens port to board a ferry to Santorini, a volcanic island in the southern Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. The island is known for its caldera, sea views, cliffs and whitewashed Cycladic houses. On arrival, the evening is free for independent exploration. Another day is dedicated to a boat excursion. After breakfast, you travel by bus from the pick-up point to Athinios port and board a boat that sails near the old port of Fira. The first stop is Nea Kameni, a volcanic island where you walk along a path to the crater of the still active volcano. The trip continues to Palea Kameni, with a stop about 50 meters from the hot springs for swimming or viewing from the boat. The boat then proceeds to Thirasia Island, once part of Santorini before a major volcanic eruption. You have about two hours there for swimming, lunch by the sea, or a visit to the village of Manolas with its steps and traditional houses. Afterwards, the boat goes to the port of Oia. You walk up to the village, known for its sunset viewpoint. The tour ends about 30 minutes after sunset, and you return by bus to the original pick-up point. On the final day, after breakfast at the hotel, you are transferred to the airport at a time that matches your onward flight from Greece.
